Advertising

According to the “Global e-Government Report,” a survey of websites produced by Brown University, three to four percent of government websites display revenue-generating advertisements.

Advertisements can be found on websites dealing with communications or tourism. As an example, the Bahamian portal site features an advertisement for a “Book Now” service, maintained by the online travel service Expedia. Vietnam and Zambia also feature advertisements on their national tourism sites. In another example, Great Britain’s Passport Agency website  has advertising that directs users to a private sector firm that, for a fee, assists citizens to obtain or renew a passport. The UK, a leader in e-Government, has concluded “Over time, it is likely that advertising and sponsorship will become increasingly important as ways of funding the provision of information and services or developing websites.”
